Lloyd White - did not hang about steering Ashburton to victory

ASHBURTON defeated relegated Chagford by seven wickets in the only C Division West game to start or finish.

Chagford were held to 169 for five in a 36-overs-each game – skipper Roger Whittingham top scoring on 75. Jake Griffiths (34) was next best.

Matt Churchill and Robin Lambert had two wickets each for Ashburton, who knocked off the runs with more than five overs to spare.

There was a brief hiatus when opener Kevin Nicholls (26) had to retire from the game with cramp, but Lloyd White (69) and Dom Durman (21) kept Ashes on course.

But the time Dan Coles was out for 18, the target was eight to win.

After the game skipper Ash Berry said: “We were sloppy for the first quarter of the game but then picked it up and finished clinically.

“Credit to Chagford, our lads and both umpires for getting this game on today.”

Ashburton could do with a win over Plympton 2nd XI, another side already down, to effectively banish their drop fears this weekend.
