PAIGNTON skipper George Benton is backing his side all the way in the Premier Division promotion stakes.

The three-horse race at the top has Torquay (256pts) out in front with Paignton (249) a short head behind and Cornwood (240) still on their tails.

The last round of three games starts with Paignton at home to Brixham, Torquay entertaining Budleigh Salterton and Cornwood just down the road at Ivybridge.

Cornwood and Torquay still have each other to play which adds an extra dimension to the final furlong.

Said Benton: “The title and promotion is still all to play for.

“We are confident of getting the last three games done with max points, which we know will send us up to the Premier.”

Chudleigh skipper Matt Heather is gunning for Plympton as the survival struggle in the A Division heats up.

Chudleigh are 12 points from safety and involved in a four-way scrap with Brixham, Ivybridge and Bideford to stay up. Two are going to be disappointed.

“It will be tough but we will be aiming to do the double over Plympton,” said Heather.

Plympton, 55 points clear of the drop zone, are in the comfy situation of not having anything to worry about.

“With the last few weeks upon us, it's a case of enjoying our cricket and trying and win a few more games,” said skipper Craig Donohue.

Plympton have never been in danger of leaving the A Division in either direction this season, which has been one of rebuilding with youngsters.

Donohue sees a pressure-free last run of games ahead in which to bring on a few more young players.

Over the majority of the season our side has been made up of a number of under-16s and under-17s and this week is no different,” said Donohue.

“I think Ben Privett has really come on this year, both with bat and ball and looks a real player.

“James Degg and Elliot Hamilton continue to develop and show great ability.

“Jonty Walliker is a monster for someone only 16, and looks like he will cause batters some real problems in years to come

“We are fortunate the club is looking in a good position going forward. The experience these guys will have got this season will stand them in good stead going forward.

“Consistency is key and this will only come with experience.”

David Wrenchy is unavailable as is David Ackford. In comes Christian Bunny and Jacob Caunter.
