SAM Johnston flayed an unbeaten century to speed Abbotskerswell to an eight-wicket win over Budleigh Salterton.

Johnston, a mature cricketer who took four months off work in Australia to play cricket in this country, has been a consistent run getter all season in league and cup.

Abbots have found his left-arm stuff pretty handy too as he has taken 18 wickets at around 25 runs each.

Budleigh were all out for 185 in their 50thand final over – 59 extras the greatest number of runs in the scorebook. Thirty-two wides did not help!

Ed Doble made a top score of 35 for Budleigh, Next best on 20 was Lloyd Murrin.

Wickets were spread round with two each for Ricky Small-Boyce, Johnston, Elliott Adams and Noah Tobias.

James Westlake, another Abbots’ success story with the bat this season, had a rare misfire when he was in and out for two.

Johnston, who hit 18 fours and five sixes in an unbeaten 128 off 94 balls, took Abbots to the brink of victory in a stand of 142 with Nick Watkin (35).

Abbots are away to Plymstock this Saturday.
