Finals day scorecards

Semi finals: Budleigh v Bideford & Paignton v Plympton | Final: Budleigh. v Paignton

SKIPPER Ed Doble had a strong claim for man of the match after making a huge contribution to Budleigh Otters’ victory over Paignton in the Devon Under-19 Vitality final at Bovey Tracey.

If Doble (3-15) did not get them, Syd Fereday (4-15) probably did as Paignton were held to 102 for nine.

Paignton were 18 for four after Doble and Fereday got stuck into them and were glad of Cole Harford’s 50 not out for posting any sort of total.

Doble then struck 41 not out off 53 balls to lead Budleigh to a six-wicket win.

Gwyn Parks (21) and Jack England (17no) both chipped in as Budleigh won with three overs to spare.

A stand of 34 unbroken between Doble and England saw the job done.

Elliot Adams (1-16), Sam Woodcock (1-14) and Charlie Ward (2-26) kept a lid on the Budleigh batting up to a point, but an asking rate of around five an over meant they did not have to chance their arm.

Budleigh got though in the semi-final against Bideford by two wickets, but only after a struggle and with just one ball to go.

Bideford totaled 114 for nine – Jack Ford (28) top scoring – which looked on the low side at the time. England (3-16) and Ed Doble (4-0-12-0) were tough to get away.

It looked like a non-event when Budleigh were 101 for three at half way, Tom Oxland (20), James Doble (35) and England (31) getting most of them, but the charm of T20 cricket is how fast it can change

Alex Hannam (2-14), Tom Parkhouse and Tom Boundy (2-5) bowled Bideford back into the game – five wickets between them for seven runs added and Budleigh were glad of the lower order for ones and twos to get over the line.

Paignton reached the final thanks to a four-run win over Plympton in the morning semi.

Harry Ward (24) and Luke Medlock (30) put on 59 for the first wicket and there were chip-ins of 29 from Noah Wright and 14 from Sam Glanfield in a total of 132 for seven.

James Degg took three for 16, Jacob Caunter two for 25 and Joe Hagan-Burt had a maiden in his 0-18 off four.

Plympton were 128 for eight when time ran out – Hagan-Burt (34) the leading run getter. Three wickets for Charlie Ward and three run outs kept Plympton behind the clock.
