DARTINGTON & Totnes make the short trip to Plymstock in their first game back in the B Division.

Last season’s unexpected D Division West champions were last there in 2011, but their stay proved a brief one.

The league re-organised last season into regional tables below the B Division, which meant putting clubs from lower levels in with higher ones to get the area splits right.

Dartington & Totnes probably benefited from the new arrangements, a point not lost on skipper James Howrihane.

“It is going to be quite a step up for us,” said Howrihane.

D&T spun their way out of the C Division West in 2016 with Harry Baxendale (31), Chris Cooke (20) and Ben Van Niekirk (29) the leading twirlers. Van Niekirk also slammed 793 runs and Cook topped 400.

Van Niekirk hasn’t returned from South Africa. His replacement is Ed Vrrell, a batsman who bowls left-arm spin too.

Two warm-up tons against Abbotskerswell and Stoke Gabriel suggest Verell is a bit useful.

Departed from last season are Noah Tobias and Chris Sleep, both of whom have signed for Abbotskerswell.
