FORMER Devon player Nick White has  joined Barnstaple & Pilton for the season ahead in the C Division East.

White is an old team-mate of B&P skipper Steve Moore from their time together with Braunton in the mid-1980s.

He played eight games for the county side in 1987 as a batsman, making 264 runs with a top score of 57 not out and 50 in the match against Berkshire at Torquay.

Barnstaple & Pilton are further strengthened by the return of the McEndoo brothers George and Henry.

Leg-spinner Henry and batter George have been missed while on their travels in New Zealand and getting them back after a year away is as good as signing two new players.

Early order batsman Tom Popham will miss the first few games of the season as he is involved in teacher training.

With promising youngsters Jack Moore and James Lake a year old are more experienced, skipper Steve Moore is confident of improving on last season’s bottom-four finish.

“We should be more competitive than for a the last few years,” said Moore, a 33-season veteran of the Devon Cricket League.

“I don’t think we are strong enough to get promotion, but we should be capable of the top four or five.”

Barnstaple’s season starts with a visit from newcomers Kilmington.
