DEVON'S Women have been hard at work since Christmas raising money to fund their summer round of matches at all levels down to under-13.

Serious pounds were shed on static bikes in the sports hall at Plymouth College pedaling away to raise money towards travelling expenses to away games.

Devon criss cross the county playing games and last season made one round trip of nearly 450 miles. As the average cost of an away trip last season was £1,116, the challenge for riders was to raise the cost of a trip through sponsorship.

Money is still coming in but Carr said the target looked like being reached as the riders kept on pedaling!

“Having reached the initial target the team took on the challenge of looking to cycle the total mileage travelled to away fixtures during the 2018 season, a distance of 1.450 miles,” said Carr.

“I am pleased to say the team passed this milestone and completed the 24-hour challenge on 1,461 miles.”

“A truly outstanding effort and thanks go to all the members for their wonderful effort and a huge thank you to all of our supporters for their generosity and kindness.”

After a week off to rest weary bodies, the fund-raising effort continued with a back-packing day at the Morrisons supermarket in Tavistock. A further £565 was raised.

Carr (Manager), Susannah Churcher, Olivia Churcher, Amy Weir, Christopher Cottrell, Justin Wubbeling together with event organiser Colette Hutchins and husband Gary all worked hard before and during the event to make it a success.
