Cricket at Thorverton

THORVERTON will be able to class Aussie seamer Ben Slaviero as a local player next season now he is living and working permanently in the UK.

Slaviero, who is 26, first turned out for Thorverton in 2012 as an overseas player on a youth mobility scheme visa.

Slaviero was still classed as an overseas player last season when he returned for a second stint in the Devon League but, thanks to his Italian heritage, his status has changed.

Skipper Andy Pitt has been talking to a couple of potential new signings as well as an overseas player for the 2019 season in the B Division of the Tolchards Devon Cricket League.

“It would be nice to get in one or two more players to add to overall playing strength of the club, but nothing is confirmed as of yet,” said Pitt.

Already committed to playing at Station Road in 2019 is young all-rounder Ben Sapiecha, who was with Sidmouth last season and Exeter prior to that.

“Ben is a really promising all-rounder so we are looking forward to see what he can do,” said Pitt.

Net practice at the Devon Cricket Centre on the University of Exeter campus will start on Sunday, March 3 at 7pm. Further sessions have been booked for Friday, March 8 (8-9pm), Sunday, March 17 (7-8pm) and Sunday, March 31 (7-8pm).
