BOB Heaman hit an unbeaten 73 to steer Devon Over-60s to a seven-wicket win over Cornwall at Pencarrow.

Cornwall made a modest 173 for seven in 45 overs – Bob Fleming top scoring with a run-a-ball 61. Stephen Jarman chipped made a patient 42 and featured in a 75-run stand with Fleming.

Devon bowlers Ali Ashworth (0-18) and John Baglivi (1-12) gave nothing away in their nine-overs stints. County captain Nick Rogers (3-26) cashed in at the end.

Although Nigel Ashplant and Rob Newing fell relatively cheaply, Roger Wensley (38) and Heaman had the chase under control.

When Wensley was third out on 99 Phil Bees (26no) joined Heaman to knock off the last 74 needed.

DEVON Over-60s 2nd XI came up short on the chase against Gloucestershire in a 45-over meeting at South Devon.

Left-armer Paul Berman took four to 28 and Dave Amery three for 41 as Gloucestershire were dismissed for 167. Alec Robinson (53) and Tom Parsons (46) had the only scores over 25.

Devon’s first four wickets fell cheaply and by the time Andy Rose (63) got to work the game was slipping away.

Neil Price (15)  and Tom Stanton (18) had the only scores of note as Devon slipped to 141 all out and 26-run defeat.
