Matt Murphy - deserved more than one wicket for Budleigh

PLYMPTON were reminded how important an overseas player can be as they dipped to a six-wicket reversal against table-topping Budleigh Salterton.

Plympton don’t have an overseas player yet as the one they lined up in January has not arrived.

Budleigh Salterton do – he is Zimbabwean international Tarisai Musakanda – and he was instrumental in his side’s win.

Harry Kandampully (35) and Will Scott-Munden (25) rescued Plympton from an unimpressive 48 for four, but once their stand of 53 was broken it was downhill in a hurry to 113 all out.

Musakanda (5-33) returned for a second spell and there were wickets for ex-Birmingham League player Muhammad Sarfraz (2-22) as Plympton lost their last six men for 12 runs.

By the time Musakanda (23) was third out on 105, he and Ed Doble (38) had won the game. Bits and pieces were all that was needed to knock off the rest.

Lloyd Murrin, the new Budleigh captain, said: “It was a good team win with everyone contributing.

“The players who have come in this year have settled in well already

“Matt Murphy opened the bowling a brilliant spell that deserved more than one wicket.

“Tari took five with a second spell that wrapped up the tail. Muhammed again bowled well for his two wickets.

“Batting wise, Ed Doble made 40 and batted smartly.”
