SOUTH Devon’s Jonty Tupman is a man in form with his bat after rattling off another match-turning innings in the six-wicket win over Lewdown.
Seven days earlier Tupman’s anchorman knock of 72 was the catalyst for a four-wicket win over Kenn.
And he was at it again at Lewdown, with a top score of 55 as South Devon chased 185 to win,
Skipper Dave Ball top scored for Lewdown in their tally of 184 all out.
South Devon spinners Rob Stephens (3-38) and James Allen (3-37) had Lewdown poking and prodding all the way down the order.
After Tupman had done his stuff, Kalen Warne (45) and Allen (30) took South Devon in sight of victory.
For skipper Allen there was a lot to be pleased about.
“It was good to see home-grown players contributing,” said Allen.
“A good bowling and fielding performance was topped off by a confident run chase.”
South Devon will be aiming to make it three from three in the D Division West this Saturday when they are back at Marsh Road to host unbeaten Paignton 2ndXI.
PAIGNTON are three from three behind Hatherleigh and Chelston & Kingskerswell at the top following their four-wicket win over Ipplepen 2ndXI.
Pens recovered from an early battering by Charlie Ward (3-52) that left them 31 for three to reach 199 for eight. Callum King (21) and Reuben Stanley (26) started the fight back then Callum Thomas (46no), Andy Maynard (40) and Simon Tapley (30) took it further.
Paignton captain Tim Ward picked up three for 31 in the last 10 overs.
Double centurion Noah Wright had his first failure of the season – out for a fourth-ball duck to George Tapley (3-27) – and the same bowler reduced Paignton to 19 for three.
Mark Smith (48) and Tom Blundell (36) got Paignton back on track with a stand of 81, which left Rory Medlock (39no) and skipper Ward (42no) to conclude the chase.
WHITCHURCH were the latest side to come a cropper against D West new boys Chelston & Kingskerswell, who are stating their case for a second successive promotion.
Dan Towl (21) had the only score of note as Pat Duke (3-15) and Lucas Grierson (2-25) bowled Whitchurch out for 112.
Mark Etherington (58no) and Chris Harrison (43no) did what was necessary for Chelston & Kingskerswell with the minimum of fuss.
PLYMPTON 2ndXI showed Kenn no mercy on the way to a whopping 265-run win at Trehill.
Steve Raven punched 107, Rob Walker stroked 70 and Simon Beare made 46 as Plympton totted up 296 for six.
Pete Chislett’s two for 36 off nine overs were respectable bowling figures under the circumstances.
Kenn were all out for 31 in reply, skittled by Matt Draper and Milly Squire with three wickets each to secure Plympton’s first league win of the season.
Joss Farr top scored with 10 for Kenn on a day when six of their batters did not make a run between them.
PLYMOUTH CS&R lost by nine wickets away to leaders Hatherleigh 2ndXI, who bowled them out for 65 and knocked off the runs in exactly 11 overs.
Skipper Nick Read (27) was the only Civil batter to make more than five – and he was outscored by 28 extras! Eddie Jones (4-9) led the Hatherleigh bowling effort.
A 40-run stand between Niall Leahy (25no) and Ryan Quick (19) left Adam Quick (15no) to wrap things up before tea.
Civil stay bottom of the table for another week.
