DEVON Under-15s notched their first ECB Championship win of the season with a convincing victory over Hampshire.

The home side managed to dodge the showers at Torquay CC – with the famous Red Arrows only able to carry out a quick fly-past on a washed-out second day of the Torbay Airshow – to beat the visitors by 81 runs thanks to a great, all-round team performance.

Jasper Presswell on his way to a three-wicket haulDevon were asked to bat after losing the toss but were soon flying thanks to a first-wicket partnership of 75 between openers Ciaran Gray and James Hayter.

Hayter was first out for 23, but Gray went on to score 85 and will be kicking himself for not reaching his maiden county century.

Archie Farkins (25) and a quickfire 42 from Sam Russell, which included three sixes and three fours, helped Devon finish on 277 for eight from their rain-reduced 45 overs.

Skipper Jasper Presswell finished with 3-21 and brother Charlie ended up with 2-36 as Hampshire were skittled out for 196.

The win made up for a disappointing start to the ECB campaign just seven days earlier when Devon travelled to Wimborne and were beaten by Dorset.

Devon elected to bat at Hamworthy. Ruben Windley (37), Josh Couch (27) and Tom Hatton (22) contributed with the bat but there were far too many lose shots and the visitors finished probably 30 runs light on 203.

Dorset got home with six wickets down. Ethan Carlisle bagged 2-40 and Jasper Presswell 2-49 but it was one to forget for the visitors.
