CHELSTON & Kingskerswell remain out in front at the top of the D Division West following a bizarre 37-run win in the top-of-the-table clash with Hatherleigh II.

Hatherleigh skipper Danny Forrester must have fancied his side’s chances after the dismissed the leaders for 94.

Romario Braithwaite and Tom Strawbridge took three wickets each and there were two more for Eddie Jones.

Lucas Grierson (32) and Erik Gregersen (12) had the only double-figure scores.

Hatherleigh were all out for 57 in reply, failing to make it to the end of the 19thover.

Star of the show for Chelston & Kingskerswell was Grierson, who took six wickets for 13 runs. Shorn Bobb (3-20) got into the early order before Grierson did his stuff.

Chelston remain top with Hatherleigh down to third as Paignton 2ndXI defeated Whitchurch to go past them.

WHITCHURCH made promotion hunters Paignton 2ndXI work for a three-wicket win.

Wayfarers’ total of 149 all out may have looked modest at the change round, but when Paignton were 91 for seven in reply the target must have looked miles away.

Paignton have a handy mix of youth and experience in their second team and having former Devon all-rounder Tim Ward to come in at number nine is certainly handy.

Ward (33no) and Sam Woodcock (19no) saw Paignton to a victory that keeps them second behind Chelston & Kingskerswell.

Whitchurch were glad of 51 not out from Nigel Barriball for rescuing them from a perilous 50 for six. Ben Hodge had 29 of the 50 in the book.

Four Paignton bowlers had two wickets, the best return being posted by Rory Medlock (2-21).

Noah Wright (41) and Marc Smith (28) got the Paignton reply up and running. Josh Towl (3-29) and Marc Kerswill (4-30) bowled Whitchurch back into the picture and it was anyone’s game before Ward and Woodcock got together.

SOUTH Devon moved closer to a place in the D West top three with a 25-run win away to Ipplepen 2ndXI.

Openers James Allen (75) and Jonty Tupman (65) led the way for South Devon, who totalled 225 for six. Mike Smith chipped in 46.

Harry Lewis (3-40) had the best overall return for the Pens. George Tapley (0-29 off 8) made run scoring difficult.

Ipplepen gave it their best shot and at 104 for three looked potential winners.

Matt Quartley (31), Simon Tapley (37) and Keith Bell (39) nudged Pens close but not close enough as they ran out of overs at 200 for seven

Smith’s one for 21 off nine was significant, as were the wickets taken by Allen (3-46) and Dillip Salinda (2-43).

South Devon, now just three points behind third-placed Hatherleigh, are at home to Whitchurch this Saturday.

KENN won for the first time this season when they defeated fellow strugglers Lewdown by 39 runs.

Kenn recovered from losing their first three batters in single figures to make 135 all out. Former captain James Mason led the rescue mission with 73.

Tom Pengelly (5-28) was the pick of the Lewdown bowlers.

Lewdown’s top three also went cheaply, but they did not have a big score to hang a comeback on.

Pengelly (17) and Adrian Clements (21) had the only scores that mattered.

Harry Passmore took three Lewdown wickets for 33 runs. Mason, James Gosling and Hugh Stronge bagged two each.

THE game between Plympton 2ndXI and Plymouth CS&R was abandoned without a ball bowled.
