A Bit of a Win!

Devon and Gloucestershire met at Paignton Cricket Club for the first of their Championship matches. Devon were put into bat on a slight damp ground, where boundaries in the first innings were few and far between.

Ellie Bishop playing up for the first time for the U17s played so well for her 31, fortunately staying in until the 33rd over. Becca Halliday (31) coming in at three did manage to find the boundary. Unfortunately there was a bit of collapse and Devon lost 8 wickets for just 33 runs!

Katie Harman and Evie Privett sensibly defended for the last 6 overs to complete the innings for a final total of 124-9.

Devon claimed wickets off Gloucestershire and despite the amount of extras conceded by Devon, it was a tense match. Both sides struggled to keep the wides to a minimum, there were 63 between the two teams and 81 extras conceded!

Katie Harman (8-2-24-2) and Evie Privett ((7-0-23-2) took early wickets. But with ten overs remaining and Somerset needing just 16 runs to win, it proved even more crucial that the extras were kept to a minimum. Jojo Baylis (7-0-32-3) and Becca Halliday (5.4-0-13-2) bowled well at the end of their spell and eventually Ellie Bishop caught the last wicket off Becca’s bowling in the 31st over. Somerset ended on 110-10, with Devon winning by 14 runs.
