On 27th June, 6 teams from accross the county met at Bovey Tracey Cricket Club to take part in the County Final of the Under 11 Girl's Festival. It was a beautiful day and ths girls arrived in high spirits ready for lots of cricket.

Previous rounds had been played in the South at South Devon Cricket Club, where the teams going through were Oldway and Bradley Barton. The West was rained off and through a complicated process which involved a hat, Horrabridge and Mary Dean's represented the West. The East Festival, played at Ottery St Mary Cricket Club, sent the teams from Stoke Hill and Stockland, whilst the North teams from Woolacombe and Marland were unfortunately unable to make the re-arrnaged date.

It was decided that all teams would play each other and so the girls took to the field in the hot afternoon sun for 5 matches of cricket. The first game was a little nervy as all the girls settled into the afternoon, but by game two there was cheering from the sidelines for the batters, specatators had turned up to watch and the girls were louder and more confident in the field.

Game 3 arrived and Stoke Hill and Horrabridge, who were the only 2 teams to win both their first matches, met each other in a very close and competitivie game. Tidy bowling from both sides saw the score remain close, but Stoke Hill managed to be more effective with the bat and went into Round 4 being the only team to have won all their matches.

As we moved into the final rounds, Oldway, who had lost their first game, found winning form and went on to win all 4 matches afterwards, meaning that at the end of the afternoon, they took the place of runners up, wth 4 wins and 1 loss.

However the afternoon went to Stoke Hill who came out of the tournament without a loss. Well done girls!

It was a great afternoon and thanks needs to go to all that made it possible - staff, parents and, most importantly, the girls themselves.

Stoke Hill now travel to Bristol for the Regional Finals on the 9th July - good luck!
