In the same week Devon and Somerset U17s faced each other. The home match at Plympton CC and then away to Bridgwater CC.

Match One (2.7.19)

Devon batted well for their 212-6 for their 40 overs, and though runs from Olivia Churcher (39), Becca Halliday (39), Holly Elsworth (38) and Maddie Holifield (40*) no-one went on to score big!

A couple of Somerset’s girls did go to get their fifties: Joleigh Roberts (60) and Niamh Holland (66) and that along with Devon helping their score with adding 39 extra, was enough for Somerset to win by 5 wickets.

Match Two (4.7.19)

Devon yet again won the toss and went into bat. Emma Corney (43) opened and Becca Halliday, going in at three batted very well for her 82, with 13 boundaries. There was a bit of a collapse in the middle, but Devon did go on to bat their overs and finished for 205-7.

Was 205 to be enough, especially after the performance from Somerset from just a couple of days previously?

Devon bowled so much better and none of the Somerset’s big hitters were able to get settled, none getting higher than 22.

Impressively, Katie Harman bowled a triple wicket maiden and fittingly took Somerset’s final wicket for her fabulous five wicket haul (6.2-2-21-5).

Somerset were all out for 128 in the 29th over. Devon won by 85 runs.
