Plymouth and Plympton enjoy cricket match

On Sunday 14th July, Plymouth and Plympton under 11s girls took part in the first round of the Lady Taverner's competition. With the sun shining and a good crowd in attendance at Mount Wise to support, the girls took to the field after Megan Hayward, the Plymouth Captain won the toss and chose to bowl.

Plympton captian, Pippa Williams, opened the batting and led by example, top scoring on 17, including some well struck fours. Keeley, Aana, Poppy and Darcey also batted well, but were restricted by accurate bowling and tight fielding to 250 off their 16 overs. Notable bowling came from Naomi Grey, who ended on figures 2 for 16 off 2.

Plymouth took to the crease knowing they had work to do and, but Plypmton rattled early, as opening batter, Siri was bowled in her first over. Despite being peppered by some excellent bowling and hit several times, Siri bravely continued and, hitting a short ball for four, and with her opening partner, Naomi,  put on 19 for the first pair.

Plymouth's strong and steady batting continued throughout the innings, with Kat top scoring for Plymouth on 33, hitting strong on the leg side in a 36 partnership with Abbie. Maggie and Poppy then came to the crease and continued to pile on the runs, with Maggie scoring 25 of the 32 partnership. Finally captian Megan took the final overs with Rosie and finished with a great partnership of 32 and despite good bowling performances from Freya (2-5) and Sophia (2-12), Plympton ended on a total of 316.

Parents and coaches alike commented on how lovely the game was and how it was played in a sporting atmosphere, both sides giving each other cheers at the end.

Congratulations to Plymouth who go on to play the winners of the South group to play for the county winners position.
