PAIGNTON 2ndXI did not hang around clinching a nine-wicket win over Ipplepen 2ndXI that took them to the top of the D West table.
Rory Medlock spun his way to figures of four for 11, and there were two wickets each for Charlie Ward and Jack Harman, as Pens were bowled out for 103.
Ali Jenner (33) and Matt Quartley (27) had the only significant scores for Ipplepen.
Mark Smith (30) was the only man out on the chase. Tom Blundell (36no) and Sam Woodcock (13no) saw Paignton across the line in a 90-over game that was won and lost in 58.
SOUTH Devon slipped off the top of the Tolchards DCL D Division West when they lost to Lewdown by six wickets.
South Devon had won seven on the spin prior to their Marsh Road meeting with Lewdown, who have spent most of the season in the bottom three.
Defeat dropped South Devon down to third in the table as Paignton won to go past them and Hatherleigh received 20 points for a walkover when Plymouth CS&R cried off.
The comfort for South Devon captain James Allen when he returns from holiday this week is that his side still have a 25-point cushion over fourth-placed Chelston & Kingskerswell.
And in a division with three promotion places this season, that’s a cushion worth having.
South Devon’s batting was consistent all the way down the order with opener Ali Wright the only batter not to make double figures in a total of 252 for eight.
John Purchese (39) and Liam Price (60) put on 61 for the third wicket and there was a stand of 52 lower down between Dilip Salinda (32) and stand-in captain Richard Beaumont.
Pick of the bowling for Lewdown was their former Devon left-arm seamer Ben Williams (3-55), who has recently re-joined the club from Middlesex Premier side Hampstead.
Williams then slammed an unbeaten 98 off 68 balls – 10 fours, five sixes – as Lewdown eased to victory with 11 balls to spare.
Harry Williams (42no) was in at the end with his brother. They put on 133 unbroken to win the game.
WHITCHURCH beat former leaders Chelston & Kingskerswell by 29 runs to open after posting a total of 211 for eight.
Rob Bone (61) and Richard Potts (36) made the early runs, which Nigel Barriball (40no) topped up in later overs.
Lucas Grierson (3-39) was C&K’s leading bowler – and their leading batter too with 36.
The C&K batting was a jig-saw affair with Erik Gregersen (34) and Joel Kearney (34) chipping in.
Wickets fell in pairs to Marc Kerswill (2-29), Josh Towl (2-36) and Bone (2-38) as C&K were bowled out for 188.
DAVID Ackford had a reminder for the Plympton selectors with an unbeaten ton in the 2ndXI’s 195-run win over D West strugglers Kenn.
David Wrench made 91 in support of Ackford as Plympton racked up 297 for five.
Wickets were shared with three for Ben Phillips as Kenn were skittled out for just 95.
Plympton are still in the bottom three but are only two points from safety.
PLYMOUTH CS&R pulled out of their home game against Hatherleigh due to team-raising problems.
