STEVE Edmonds’ six-wicket haul in his first game back after injury set Ashburton on course for victory over Bridestowe.

Only Gary Sizmur (19) provided any resistance as Edmonds finished with fine figures six for 20 off nine to leave Bridestowe 57 for seven.

Alex Jopling (25) and Chris Lavis (25) fought back with a partnership of 57, but when Arun Karthick (2-17) broke the stand the rest came quietly as Bridestowe were all out for 122.

The run chase was a formality for Ashes as skipper Ash Berry (39no) saw his side home.

Steve Edmonds on his way to a six-wicket haul against BridestoweBerry was well supported by Karthick (26), Dan Coles (18) and Jake Pascoe (16) as Ashes won with six wickets in hand and 14.2 overs to spare.

After the game Berry said "Great to have Steve back after a three-week injury break, as he's so reliable for us.

“As a collective, I've been impressed with our consistency in all three disciplines, which has attributed to a lot of our results and certainly did this week."

KINGSBRIDGE’S 48-run win over Shaldon probably came too late in the season to stave off relegation.

Four defeats on the spin prior to beating Shaldon leaves Kingsbridge 37 points adrift of safety with 80 to play for.

Kingsbridge still have to play doomed Yelverton and fellow strugglers Babbacombe in their final four games, but beating both won’t be enough unless Bridestowe and Shaldon lose a few too.

Bhanu de Silva (43) and James Rosewarne (48) were Town’s ain run scorers in a total of 166 for nine. Clive Clark (27) was the only other batter in double figures.

Ross Abraham (4-27) dominated the bowling stats for Shaldon.

Ruben Minnaar opened up with 44 for Shaldon, but no one else got past 16 as they were bowled out for 118 in the 22ndover.

Old warhorse Neal Peach (4-31) took the bowling pat on the back for Kingsbridge.

TAIL-enders Josh Goodliffe and Dan Skeemer got Cornwood 2ndXI over the line by two wickets in a tense affair at Stoke Gabriel.

Opener Calum Moses hit 46 and Mike Meech made 40 in Stoke’s total of 201 all out.

Cornwood gave away 55 extras, a staggering 46 of them in wides.

Luke Richardson (3-55) led the Cornwood bowling effort, aided and abetted by James Richardson (2-27) and Ben Griffiths (2-28).

Mark Roca (43) and Luke Richardson (61) shared in a stand of 69 that got Cornwood up to 93 for two.

Then wickets started to tumble to spinner Kyle Lardner (3-35) and with Jack Tolley (2-34) joining in Cornwood began to falter.

Richardson stayed put until he was eighth out with 18 needed and two wickets in hand. Goodliffe (19no) and Skeemer (9no) clinched victory with seven balls to spare.

THERE were no surprises at Langton Park where unbeaten leaders Dartington & Totnes overwhelmed bottom side Yelverton by seven wickets.

Harry Baxendale spun out five Yelverton batters for 14 runs and Jono Colegate took three for 19 as the home side were dismissed for 80.

J P Snyman hit an unbeaten 51 as D&T raced to victory.

One more win will clinch promotion for D&T. Yelverton are now resigned to relegation as they cannot get out of the bottom three in the four games left.

FORMER Barton and Torquay batsman James Toms made a rare appearance for Plymouth 2ndXI in the seven-wicket win over Babbacombe.

Toms stopped playing 1stXI cricket at the end of last season and had not picked a bat up in anger since.

The old traits were still there though as Toms belted 81 to help Plymouth to victory.

Dave Burke and Will Warren had taken three wickets each to help hold Babbacombe to 143 all out. Dean Durrant top scored on 36.

Victory leaves Plymouth fifth in the table.

Babbacombe are still in the third relegation slot and have to find 25 points from somewhere to have a chance of reaching safety.
