BRIXHAM’S unhappy stay in the B Division is officially over following a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Kilmington.

Brixham asked to be relegated from the A Division last season after losing their 2ndXI due to a shortage of players. Ivybridge got an unexpected reprieve as a result.

Sadly, a side that was in the Premier Division as recently as 2016 will be playing C Division West cricket in 2020 as the loss to Kilmington consigned them to the relegation that has looked inevitable since halfway.

Opener Mike Barron made 20 and no one else registered more than 14 as Brixham were bowled out for 76 by Ollie Reed (4-22), Dan Fuzzard (3-12) and Ben Fuzzard (2-22). The last six wickets tumbled for 15 runs.

Kilmington slumped to 16 for four in reply under pressure mostly from Tom Stephenson (4-31).

Modest scores matter in a low-scoring game. Joe Elsworth (19), Rob Crabb (16no) and Ben Fuzzard (16no) put Kilmington back on track.

CHUDLEIGH skipper Matt Heather can sleep more easily now after his side banished their relegation worries once and for all with a 22-run derby win at Bovey Tracey 2ndXI.

Chudleigh are now 50 points clear of bottom side Brixham and can’t be caught with only 40 points left to play for.

Ed Foreman – how Chudleigh missed him in the first half of the season – hit a top score of 79 in a 43-over total of 196 for nine.

Mark Solway (24) and in-form Alex Haywood (39) got Chudleigh up to 99 for two then Foreman batted most of the way through until he was dismissed at 180 for six.

Bovey Tracey’s bowlers all operated around four-five runs an over, with the exception of Freddie Ford. Will Christophers (4-30) was the only one with more than one wicket.

Bovey, who were without skipper Jeremy Christophers, who left himself out to give younger players a go, were all out for 174.

Ford (36) had the only score of note in a wobbly running total of 78 for five.

Brad Causey (34) and Sam Taylor (26) led a fight back and a stand of 50 for the ninth wicket between Causey and Chris Yabsley (26) was an unexpected bonus.

Yasbley’s demise to a Rob Clarke run-out was the end of the line for Bovey, who were all out five runs later for 174.

Haywood and Clarke took three wickets each and veteran Derek Lammonby snared two of the first three for 18 runs.

IPPLEPEN’S miserable run of form continued with a nine-wicket drubbing at the hands of B Division champions Seaton.

The Pens, promotion candidates at halfway, have only won once in the last five starts on their way down to the bottom two.

Only one side will go down this season in what became a division of nine after Filleigh withdrew after fixtures had been drawn up.

It won’t be Ipplepen as they are second from bottom and can’t be overhauled by Brixham in what is left of the season.

Ipplepen were all out for 86 in the 37thover. There was no score greater than a brace of 16s for Mawgan Penrice and Aidan Phillips and no stand worth more than 25.

Seaton’s Daley Holmes (4-4 off 6.5) was almost unplayable. Joe Berry (3-20) gave little away.

Seaton’s only casualty was opener Matt Hewer, the former Bovey Tracey batter, who went for 12 to Keith Wakeham with the score on 44.

Ryan Daye (41) and Joel Seward (24) were the not out batsmen when Seaton got over the line in the 21stover.
