SANDFORD skipper Richard Foan is already planning ahead for 2020 after winning another battle for Premier Division survival.

Foan got Sandford off the relegation hook on the last day of the 2018 season with a six-wicket win at Heathcoat – and did it again 12 months later.

The odds were not so great this season as five points win or lose against Exmouth was the target, which was achieved before tea by bowling them out for 131.

What Foan does not want is a third successive fight to stay up, which is clear from his seasonal summation.

“It was always going to be a tough year after signing a couple of new faces (Sandy Allen, Trevor Anning), who needed time to settle,” said Foan.

“They will have that season behind them and understand their roles in the side next summer.

“Looking to add to what we already have ,especially bringing in some hungry younger players who can take the club forward and make sure we stay at the top level for years to come.

“Last year was very similar in that we started very slowly and played well at the end of the year. Next May we have to be ready and firing to hit the ground running.”

Sandford had signed South African all-rounder Ferisco Adams as their overseas player for 2019, but injury prevented him jetting over.

Harrison Jones, a UK-domiciled Australian, filled in at short notice and his future plans are a bonus for Foan.

“Harrison has been brilliant this year,” said Foan of the 531-runs-scored batter.

“Harrison will be English qualified in 2020, which is a massive thing for us as it will allow us to get an overseas player as well.”

Jones bowls a bit to and took three wickets for 23 runs as Exmouth were bowled out in the 31stover. Jamie Palmer had identical figures.

Exmouth skipper Andy Buzza rescued his side from a pitiful 39 for five with an unbeaten 63.

Exmouth’s David Lye, a former Sandford batter (2003-2008), was out second ball to Palmer on his farewell appearance before retiring.

Sandford fielders formed a guard of honour for Lye on his way out to bat.

Opener Foan led the run chase with 79 and wiped off 116 of the 132 needed with youngster Adam Small. Game over.
