PAIGNTON 2ndXI ended an debate about the destination of the D West title by hammering relegated Kenn by 10 wickets.
Hatherleigh 2ndXI could have gone past Paignton in the event of a an upset at Queens Park, but there was no chance of that after Kenn were bowled out for 74.
Jack Harman was the man of the moment for Paignton with six Kenn wickets for 17 runs.
Mark Smith (52) and Archie Farkins (21) were the not-out batters in the 10.1 overs Paignton needed to knock of 80 to win. Smith won it by smashing Ben Gannon for six.
SOUTH Devon blotted their copybook on the last day of the D West season by crashing to a 10-wicket defeat against Hatherleigh 2ndXI.
Both sides were assured of promotion going into the match and South Devon clearly had an end-of-season air about them before the game.
Hatherleigh, still in with a chance of catching Paignton 2ndXI and pinching the divisional title, were a bit more motivated… and it showed.
Teenager spinner Eddie Jones helped himself to six South Devon wickets for 17 runs from nine overs - including a hat-trick - as the home side were skittled for 84.
Opener and captain James Allen made 35 of the 84, Dillip Salinda scratched around for 11 and no one else made more than last man Brian Allen (11). Five batters did not manage a run between them.
Jones (48no) and Cameron Rowlands (28no had the runs knocked off without mishap in the 22ndover.
South Devon finished third in the final table and had promotion bagged with two games to go. Losing those last two games – Whitchurch away was the first of them – took some shine of what has been the best season in years at Marsh Road.
The 1stXI reached the Brockman Cup final for the first time since 2005 and the 2ndXI were promoted as G Division West champions.
CHELSTON & Kingskerswell defeated Ipplepen 2ndXI by 32 runs to round off the season with a win.
Having been up among the frontrunners in the first half of the season, Chelston & Kingskerswell fell away slightly after losing to South Devon in the first game after the turn.
A final placing four was still respectable and may have prompted a few ‘what-iffs’ in the dressing room.
Chelston tied one game against Hathereleigh and had another match rained off. Only five games fell foul of the weather in the D West all season and C&K were half of one of them.
Add in a win in the tie and a likely win over relegated Kenn in the rain-off and C&K could have finished third instead of South Devon, who were only 27 points ahead in the final table.
The top four batters all fired as C&K reached 213 for seven in the full 45 overs.
Openers Vivek Kulkarni (31) and Nick Guest (46) put on 52 then skipper Erik Gregersen (65) and Guest added 82.
Shorn Bobb whacked 33 off 14 balls after Gregersen fell to Harry Lewis (3-54).
Ipplepen big hitter Matt Quartley went in at 59 for two and proceeded to take the bowling to task. His 86 off 56 balls kept Pens in the game despite the best efforts of Bobb (2-27) and Chris Harrison (2-42) to put the pressure on.
Pat Duke winkled out Quartley on 174 for eight and after that Pens quickly folded to 181 all out.
PLYMPTON secured their C West status for another season thanks to an eight-wicket win over Whitchurch.
Josh Towl top scored for Whitchurch in a total of 150 all out. Dave Wrench took three Whitchurch wickets for 33 runs.
Harry Kandampully (61no) and Georgia Hennessy (50no) took care of the Plympton run chase.
Plympton’s win means it s curtains for Lewdown despite a 10-wicket win over bottom side Plymouth CS&R.
Dan Windsor had a top score of 25 for Civil, who were bowled out for 71 by Nick Smith (6-34) and Harry Williams (4-30).
Dave Ball thrashed an unbeaten 50 as Lewdown raced to an ultimately hollow victory.
