IPPLEPEN will have changes on and off the field for the season ahead in the Tolchards Devon League B Division.

Ashley Harvey is taking over the captaincy of the 1 XI as Sam Wakeham steps down after three seasons in charge.  He will be aiming to push the team up the table.

Standing down - Sam WakehamThe 2019 season ended up a disappointment for Pens, who finished one of the bottom having led the table at half way. Only one side went down last summer so Pens stayed safe.

“With youngsters Ben Forsey, Reuben Stanley, and Marcus Gadie more experienced, hopes are high for a better showing this year,” said Ipplepen chairman Keith Wakeham.

“The squad looks much the same and we hope to confirm the addition of an overseas player shortly.:

The 2nd and 3rd XIs will be led for another year by the familiar faces of Simon Tapley and Alan Boon.

“Tapley considered retirement but is keen to have one more season, and will use it to help mentor possible replacements from the younger ranks,” said Wakeham.

Behind the scenes, new father Chris Partridge has had to step back from most of the roles he fills for the club and will take some replacing. He remains sponsorship secretary.

Andrew Maynard continued as chairman of the junior section, which will have two new Level One Foundation coaches working with them this year.

The juniors are running the ECB’s new Dynamo cricket initiative, which will run alongside six junior hardball teams.

Senior Nets will be held at Ashmoor Sports Centre, Ashburton from Saturday March 7 between 9.30-11:30am. All players, old and new, are welcome.
