ASHES-winning England captain Michael Vaughan will be the guest of honour at a fund-raising dinner for Ivybridge CC.

Vaughan led his side to a 2-1 victory over Australia in the 2005 Ashes Series, the first win by England over the old enemy in 18 years.

There were many memorable moments during the series – and a never-to-be forgotten night out after the Ashes were clinched by a draw in the final Test at the Oval. England were 2-1 up going into the game having edged ahead in the series by beating the Aussies in Nottingham in the previous match.

Michael Vaughan - England's Ashes-winning captain in 2005Vaughan was in the same England side as cricketing characters such as Andy Flintoff, Steve Harmison and Kevin Pietersen – and the opposition included larger-than-life players like Shane Warne, Glen McGrath and Adam Gilchrist. In company like that there are bound to be anecdotes to tell.

Jon Sparkes, the Ivybridge chairman and dinner organiser, said it is night cricket lovers won’t want to miss!

“It is going to be a fantastic opportunity to spend a night with an Ashes-winning captain and leading cricket commentator,” said Sparkes.

“It will be interesting to hear Michael’s reflections on his career over the years and the current international scene.

“And there are bound to be some great stories to tell – and the chance to ask some difficult questions.”
