BRAUNTON came a proper cropper at Ottery St Mary where they plunged to a 96-run defeat.

Opener Billy Reed blazed his way to 117 off 84 balls, making the Braunton bowlers suffer as he plundered 13 fours and six sixes.

Dan Flower chipped in with 40 and Mickey Wilkinson had 28. Mark Mitchell (2-26) reigned Ottery in a little. Dan Brierley had to work hard for his five for 65.

Braunton were all out for 167 in reply – which was a respectable effort after they had been 24 for four after an early working over from Will Harrison (3-12) and Billy Rudolph (2-17).

Ian Roberts made 25, Rob Paterson 32 and Martin Smith a breezy 52 off 32 balls coming in at number 10.

Braunton face another stiff test this Saturday as joint leaders Ivybridge visit Kelsey.

Ottery skipper Rob Crabb said Reed and Harrison set the game up nicely for his side to win it.

“After losing the toss we set a good total, mainly down to an eye-catching knock from Billy Reed,” said Crabb.

“Braunton were reduced to 47 for five thanks to a brilliant opening spell from Will Harrison and never really got going.

“Two wins so far is a pleasing start to the season in a new division.”
