JACK Horton was Plymstock’s match-winner for the second game in a row as Tavistock were dispatched by five-wickets at the Ring.

Horton’s quickfire 81 beat Dartington & Totnes in round one and his unbeaten 67 set up the win over Tavistock

Victory keeps Plymstock in the top three with Bideford and Ivybridge for company.

According to Tavvy skipper Shaun Daymond, Plymstock won’t stray far from the top three for the rest of the season.

“Plymstock should win the division with their side,” said Daymond.

Dave Manning helped himself to 70 off not many balls as Tavvy rustled up 174 all out. Next best with 16 was Rob Milligan

Seb Jordan took five for 36 and there were two wickets each for Sayed Ali and West Indian Bronte Bess on his debut.

Horton played the anchorman role as Plymstock chalked off the runs.

Skipper Scott Mansfield weighed in with 35.

Dan Milligan (2-30) and Marc Lewis (2-37) shared four of the five wickets to fall.

Although it was Tavvy’s second successive defeat, Daymond isn’t in panic mode yet

“We got put in on a slightly tacky wicket and put a reasonable score together,” said Daymond.

“The wicket got better to bat on they batted well.

“We were still in it right till the end but Jack Horton was the game changer and his innings was timed well.”

Plymstock skipper Mansfield agreed Horton played a big role but stressed it was not the Jack Horton Show, stressing Jordan’s five wickets were  played a big part.

He added: “The way Jack is batting at the moment is brutal at times and if he continues we should be in good stead more often than not,” said Mansfield.

“Our bowlers did what was required on a wicket not offering much and bowled wicket to wicket.

“This showed in the dismissals as eight were bowled and on was lbw.

“Bronte Bess showed we he can offer with his pace and swing and was backed up by the others.”
