IVYBRIDGE stayed calm under pressure to beat Thorverton by 13 runs to remain joint top in the B Division.

Adam Huxtable and Jeewan De Silva were the main men with the bat, both hitting half-century scores in a total of 203 for seven.

Thorverton chased to the bitter end, recovering from 127 for six to reach 184 for seven.

Pressure told on Thorverton in the shape of two run-outs – Andy Pitts’ the key one – and they were all out for 190 with an over to go.

That’s two wins in two starts for the Bridge, no dropped points and a share of top spot with Plymstock and Bideford.

Ivybridge made an inauspicious start with Abraham Kopparambil, Jake Zimmerman and Harry Solomon all gone for 19 runs on the board. Adriane Morrison had two of the wickets to fall.

Huxtable (61) and DeSilva (54) put on 113 before Jake Choules broken the stand.

Skipper Kelvin Trent (32) and Huxtable added another 34.

Paul Fielder was the pick of the Thorverton bowlers with three for 30.

Thors started positively with openers Fielder (25) and George Greed (49) notching 72.

Three wickets went for 27  - James Bullock (2-25) bagging a couple – then Graham White (23) and Harry CHoules (15) move the scoring forwards.

Spinners Kopparambil (2-34) and DeSilva (2-10) slowed Thors to 127 for six. Then came the fightback. Morrison (18), Pitts (30) and Jake Crouch (11) chipped away at the target.

The end came suddenly. Pitt was run-out by Solomon and Jake Choules bowled first ball by Pete Abraham as Ivybridge claimed the last two wickets.

“It was a hard-fought game as it always with Thorverton,” said Bridge skipper Kelvin Trent.

“We bowled poorly to give them a good start, then we came back very well and managed to win a close game.”

Thorverton captain Graham White has few doubts where it went wrong: the bowlers just didn’t bowl straight enough.

“We bowled 25 wides, which is obviously a massive factor when you lose by 12 runs,” said White.

“We're not far away, it's just not clicked yet.

“It was a much-improved performance on the first week.

“I am sure we will get it right soon enough.”
