EAST ONE

THORVERTON skipper Andy Pitt hopes the 105-run defeat by Heathcoat II in East Division One will serves as a wake-up call for his side.

Jake Stoneman (51) and Simon Sobcjak (68) both hit half-centuries for Heathcoat as they reached 237 all out in the last of their 45 overs.

Will Thompson (24), Tom Reynolds (29) and skipper James Onley-Gregson (26) all chipped in to good effect.

Seamer Ben Slaviero (3-47) took second-spell wickets for Thors. Jake Choules only went for around three and over and there were wickets for Jake Broom (2-29) and Alex Jopling (2-38).

Thorverton were in trouble almost from the get go as they slid to 41 for five in reply as Onley-Gregson and Tom Reynolds (2-23) cut through the top order.

Dan Robbins (25) and Slaviero (35) put on 56 for the sixth wicket, but once they were parted it was downhill all the way to 132 all out. Onley-Gregson finished with four for 25 and Thompson two for three.

Heathcoat already had a league game under their belt, but Thoverton did not and Pitt felt it showed.

“We let their batsmen get settled and although Alex and Jacob dragged it back for us they got more than they should have done,” said Pitt.

“Batting-wise we were in a poor position at 41 for five, which was largely our own fault due to playing some poor shots.

"Heathcoat bowled well, but we could and should have done better.”

Thoverton are away to Shobrooke Park this Saturday. Heathcoat visit Whimple, who beat Shobrooke by 55 runs last time out.

Luke Phillips (75), Cameron Kidd (42) got Whimple off to a 69-run start then Mark Porter (38no) and Steve Hathaway (31no) put on 70 unbroken to take the total  270 for seven.

Shobrooke got as far as 215 in reply. Having been 135 for four they collapsed to 145 for eight and could not recover,

They were bowled out by a combination of Porter (3-6), Matt Richards (3-34) and Sam Jefferson (2-19).

Josh Reeve (40) top scored for Shorooke, veteran left-hander Richard Pyle (27) weighed in and Chris Ford made 34 not out batting at number nine.
