PLYMOUTH 2nd XI beat Plymstock 1st XI by three runs in a nail-biting finish at Mount Wise.

Plymouth reached 208 for nine in their 45 overs with runs booked all the way down the order.

Opener Teddy Haffenden anchored the top half on his way to 39 off 91 balls and had support from Jon Kerridge (31) and Ethan Carlisle (27) reaching 122 for five.

Dan Vile (31) and Noah Carlisle (32) scored more quickly after drinks.

James Nicholls, in his first game as Plymstock captain, took four wickets for 33 runs with his off-spin.

Tom Mitch deserved something in the wickets column for bowling nine overs at a cost of 15 runs.

Plymstock went for it all the way and with six overs to go were slight favoutires.

Josh Hocken had played the limpet role for Plymstock and with back-up from Mitch (20) and Rob Cunningham Teddy Richards (31) had the target down to 22 to win with three wickets left and Rob Cunningham settled at the other end.

Carlisle bowled Hocken at the start of the next over, the scoring rate slowed and when Jimmy Haffenden bowled a maiden the pressure was on Plymstock.

Eleven to win off three overs with Cunningham (25no) still there was do-able, but only if Cunningham hogged the strike. He could not get enough of it and Plymstock were all out for 205 with a whole over to go.

Plymstock could view the game as ‘one that go away’ although Nicholls did not see it quite like that.

“Everyone was extremely rusty, which was to be expected, but in the end I thought we were going to get over the line,” said Nicholls.

“Ethan Carlisle bowled nicely for Plymouth and they were sharper than us in the field which ultimately was the difference.

“It was good to get back out there and it ended up a very good game of cricket.

“A proper game under everyone's belt will, hopefully, have blown away the cobwebs.”

CORNWOOD 2nd XI defeated Ivybridge 1st XI by 22 runs in a low-scoring affair at Fillham

Ben Griffiths, the Cornwood captain, must have been concerned during the break that his side’s total of 158 all out would not be enough.

The Corns made steady progress to 120 for four, Owen Gannon (32) and Nick Tracey (39) the main run getters, then lost three wickets for one run scored and faded away.

George Berry (3-24) got to grips with the top five and Jacob Kopparambil (3-46) struck lower down.

Ivybridge were pottering along in the right direction until they lost match-pro Dinesh Raheja for 25 with the score then 73 for three.

Ben Griffiths (4-38) got the dangerous left-hander out and took three more in quick succession as the Bridge slumped to 89 for six.

Callum King (13) and Berry (19) delayed the end for a while, but the introduction of Robin Dart (4-9) sent Ivybridge sliding to 136 all out.
