WEST THREE

BRIDESTOWE 1XI got off to a winning start in the West Three mini-division with a convincing 103-run victory over Hatherleigh 2ndXI.

Bridestowe lost a couple of early wickets to Nick Smith (2-28) but Tom Pengelly (37) batted patiently to rebuild the innings.

Brandon Horn (32) upped the run rate with some lusty blows before he was caught in the deep.

Leon Horn smashed the Hatherleigh bowling to all parts, hitting nine fours and eight sixes on his was to a 92-ball 125.

Captain Eddy Jones (29no) hit the last ball of the innings for six to take Bridestowe to 299-7 from their 40 overs.

Dan Forrester (59) was the only Hatherleigh top order batsman to get going.

Accurate spells from spinners Tom Pengelly (2-24) and Tom Pearce (2-32) ensured runs were hard to come by in the middle overs.

Harry Arden (41) played a composed innings to take Hatherleigh to a respectable total.

Brandon Horn (3-14) finished the innings on 196 with three quick wickets.

WILL Scott-Munden just missed out on a century for Tavistock 2nd XI in their 211-run win over Lewdown in West Division Three.

Scott-Munden, now back at the Ring following a spell with Plympton, was a victim of the nervous nineties when he chipped a catch to mid-on. He was on 99 at the time.

It would have been a maiden Tavvy ton for Scott-Munden, whose previous high was 59 not out against Cornwood in 2018.

Ryan Burke (44) and Scott-Munden made the early runs for Tavistock, then left-hander Jack Smyly hit a well-timed 73 as Tavistock advanced to 323 for six.

Lewdown, currently in a rebuilding phase, started solidly with openers Ollie Brown (20) and Keith Maynard (34) getting their heads down.

Jack Bellamy bowled Brown to break the stand then dismissed dangerous Jack Williams with a leg-stump Yorker.

After that the only question was how long would Lewdown hold out. With Bellamy and left-armer Ollie Dickinson both taking three wickets, and Jon Procter a couple, Lewdown were all out for 112 in the 21st over.
