FILLEIGH bowled their way to a 31-run win over Hatherleigh 3rd XI in a low-scoring affair in North Division Two.

Chris Cullen (49no) and Pete Buckley (27) were the only Filleigh batters to make double-figure scores in a laboured total of 131 for eight. John Baglivi (4-8) was the leading wicket taker.

Only Ruben Forrester (48) in Hatherleigh’s top five made a double-figure score as they struggled to 100 all out against Filleigh’s six-string attack, all of whom took at least one wicket.

MARK Knapman and Phil Pennington both scored half-centuries for North Devon 3rd XI in their 69-run win over Bideford 2nd XI in North Division Two.

Knapman (65) and Pennington (60) led the way with a stand of 133 for the second wicket that helped North Devon hoist 238 for six in 35 overs. Fifty-two wides helped!

Tom Stone (58) and John Weeks (31) gave Bideford a 62-run start, but support was lacking until Ian Hayter went in low down and his 24 not out could not change the result.

Jeremy Thompson clamed four wickets for 13 runs for the winners.

BRAUNTON 2nd XI beat Newton Tracey by four wickets with eight balls to spare on the Lawn.

Martin Gear, the former Devon and North Devon all-rounder, plundered five fours and three sixes on his way to a top score of 70 for Newton Tracey in a total of 174 for nine.

Rob Gear, another old Devon and North Devon hand, then took three wickets at Braunton stumbled to 51 for four then 75 for five in reply.

An unbroken stand of 101 between Dan Brierley (78no) and James Kemp (22no) won it for Braunton.
