SOUTH FOUR

SOUTH Devon 1stXI are sitting on a comfortable lead at the top of the South Four table following an eight-wicket win over Ipplepen 2ndXI.

Dillip Salinda’s first six-wicket haul for the club he joined last year helped condemn Pens to a total of 67 all out.

South Devon sped to victory inside 17 overs to go more than seven points clear of Babbacombe at the top of the table.

If South Devon can win at Chelston & Kingskerswell this Saturday in round five, it is hard to see anyone catching them for a place in the play-offs.

Salinda (6-21) accounted for six of Ipplepen’s top seven, only two of whom made a double-figure score. The job was finished by Kalen Warne (2-4) and Dave Spicer (2-15), who has returned to 1stXI cricket after an absence of a decade.

Chasing low totals can be troublesome and when opener Jonty Tupman went for one Pens may had a glimmer of hope.

By the time captain for the day Matt Beasant (19) was second out on 46, the game was all-but over as a contest.

Dax Oliver (18no) and Liam Price (21no) joined up the dots to secure victory in the 17thover.

Beasant, in charge due to the absence of skipper James Allen, said: “I thought we were brilliant.

He added: “We bowled with consistency and fielded incredibly well. It's one of the best fielding displays I've been involved in for a long, long time.

“We are improving every week and have an incredible winning mentality.”

CHELSTON & Kingskerswell were 29 for two chasing 221 to win against Babbacombe when rain stopped play.

Babbacombe had made a respectable 220 for seven in 38 overs with Steve Broad top scoring on 95. Dave Stubbs found some form with 29.

Nick Guest was 19 not out for C&K when the heavens opened.

Babbacombe are at home to Ipplepen this Saturday.

WEST TWO

THE West Two games between Yelverton and Plymstock II and Plympton II and Whitchurch were called off due to waterlogged grounds.

WEST THREE

TAVISTOCK 2nd XI dipped to a six-wicket defeat away to previously winless Lewdown in West Three.

Tavistock were all out for 123 in the 39th over with Marc Webber (31) making the only score above 20.

The Williams brothers – Harry (43no) and Jack (41) – took Lewdown to victory, although Lewis’s four overs for six runs slowed them for a while.

RAIN stopped play in the West Three game between Hatherleigh 2nd XI and visiting Bridestowe.

Hatherleigh were 106 for three in the 28th over when rain closed in around the Holsworthy Road ground.

Opener Ryan Quick top scored for Hatherleigh with 40 off 52 balls before the rain came down.

The West Three table proppers are at home to Lewdown this Saturday.

EAST EAST TWO

EAST EAST Two was a virtual washout with just a handful of overs bowled.

Chardstock were seven without loss midway through the third over at Kentisbeare when rain stopped play.

There was no play at all at Sampford Peverell & Tiverton where neighbours Clyst Hydon were the scheduled visitors.
