MARK Porter hit an unbeaten 62 to help Alphington towards a four-wicket win at Bridestowe.

Nathan Bright took four for 22 and skipper Stuart Shaw three for 18 as Alphington dismissed Bridestowe for 124.

Alphington were seven for three in reply after an early going over from Gary Sizmur and Chris Lavis and were glad of Porter for stopping the rot.

Shaw said he felt the team eased off thinking they had done the hard bit – and were given a rude awakening.

“That’s the danger when you bowl a side out for 124, you think that is job done,” said Shaw.

“We are then seven for three after Mark Halse nicked one to the keeper and we played a couple of shots that were not great.

“Porter held it together and once we got into the 70s the result was never in doubt.

“The message is our attitude needs to be a bit better.”

Bridestowe got a decent start through Sizmur (42) and Mark Fogerty (16) and when Richard Drake was dismissed by Javed Mahmood they were 82 for three.

Only Tim Shaw (12) reached double figures after that as Shaw and Bright scythed through the middle and lower order.

Porter and Andy Shepherd (27) repaired Alphington’s early damage effectively with a stand of 66.

Porter kept going, finishing with nine boundaries, as the runs were knocked off with nearly five overs to spare.
