CHAGFORD made it two wins on the spin in C Division West with a comfortable four-wicket win over visiting Kingsbridge.

Kingsbridge skipper James Westlake stroked the top score of 76 – 11 fours and a six – in a total of 177 for seven.

Along the way there was a stand of 85 for the third wicket with Devon age-group player Freddie Ford.

Ford faced 75 balls and hit just one boundary in his 25.

Craig Penberthy removed Westlake and Ford on his way to figures of two for 23.

No one else had more than one wicket, although Derek Lammonby and Christian Bostock bowled nine-overs each for just 21 and 15 runs respectively.

Chagford opener James Fulner had a let off in the first over when he was dropped in the slips –and another in the 30s when he was dropped at mid-wicket.

The former Shaldon, Torquay, Abbotskerswell and Bovey Tracey batsman went on to make 89 which won Chagford the match.

Paul Penberthy made 32 not out and was still there at the end. Fulner had gone to Will Dorey (2-21) with 16 needed.

For Kingsbridge skipper Westlake it was a game that got away.

“it was a game we should have won had we held our catches,” said Westlake.

“Neal Peach bowled very well and had Chagford in all sorts of trouble, but was unlucky.

“Freddie Ford, who is only 13, batted brilliantly with me at four.

“With six blokes missing from last Saturday we only got 11 together late on Friday night.

“Bhanu DaSilva is going to be away for three weeks, which makes a huge difference to us.”
