RYAN Glass, Sandy Allen and Harrison Jones all scored half-centuries in Sandford’s 105-run win over Paignton that took them into the Premier Tier second-place play-off final.

Sandford were always slight favourites against a Paignton side that was noticeably without captain George Benton, Devon’s George Allen and Connor Bryan among others.

To plug the gap Paignton picked all three Medlocks for the first time – dad Tony and sons Rory and Luke – as well as two Wards and two Woodcocks.

Glass (62) and Allen (60) put on 109 for the first wicket and with Jones (54) and Adam Small (24) chipping in a total of 238 for eight was achieved.

Paignton trio Archie Farkins, Connor Ashworth and Rory Medlock all kept the rate down to four and over or below when they bowled.

Paignton were soon behind the asking rate when the batted and wickets fell steadily. There was no partnership of more than 25 in the book.

Luke Medlock (29) and Connor Ashworth (20) had the only scores of note as Paignton were bowled out for 133. There were three wickets each for Shaun Fryett and Tudor Morgan-Huggett and a couple for Harry Everett.

Sandford will play Cornwood this Saturday at a venue yet to be decided.

Richard Foan, the Sandford captain, knows Cornwood will prove a tougher proposition than Paignton.

“We were playing a very inexperienced Paignton side with a lot of players missing,” said Foan.

“The effort by Paignton to bring a side and travel for the game was really appreciated and I am sure their younger players will have gained good experience from it.”

On the win over Paignton, Foan said: “Sandy and Ryan set a great platform and everyone else chipped in.

“We bowled well to contain them and then were able to give everyone a good chance to bowl.”

FOUR wickets for Jackson Thompson and a skipper’s knock of 63 from Matt Skeemer helped Cornwood beat Bovey Tracey by two wickets in the Premier runners-up play-off.

Bovey Tracey, who took a patchwork side to Oak Park, were all out for 193 in the 43rdof their 45 overs.

Opener Taylor Ingham-Hill made a top score of 66 for Bovey and stayed out there until Thompson (4-18) dismissed him on 123 for six.

Matt Golding (37) and captain Toby Codd (21) chipped into the total. Both fell to Matt Tamsett (2-31) who worked with Adam Goodliffe (3-47) to pick off the last four batters.

Cornwood lost opener Ciaran Gray two balls into their reply to Hugo Whitlock (2-28) and when Thompson fell to Golding (2-34) they were seven for two.

Skeemer and Aaron Richards (22) started the fight back then Matt Butterworth (40) joined the captain for a stand worth 113 that made the game winnable.

By the time Ash Causey (3-32) removed Skeemer the target was 28 to win with five wickets in hand. Bits and pieces got Cornwood over the line with four balls to spare.

Cornwood will face Sandford in the second-placed play-off this Saturday.
