Ross Treleaven – wickets for TSJ in the play-off win over Thorverton

TIER THREE PLAY-OFFS

LUKE Medlock’s unbeaten century helped Paignton 2nd XI to a six-wicket win over Upottery in the Tier Three play-off for the runners-up spot.

Upottery’s 40-over total of 230 for eight – Ollie Cave and James Mitcham both making half-centuries – was respectable if not unbeatable.

Harry Ward and Cole McFarland (23) got Paignton up to 82 for two, then Medlock took a hand in proceedings.

A stand of 133 with Ward ended when the surviving Paignton opener was spun out for 60 by Jack Larcombe (2-28).

Medlock was on 94 not out at the other end took Paignton the rest of the way to finish on 103 not out off 66 balls. His scorebook entry included nine fours and six sixes – four in a row smashed off the bowling of Matt Frost.

THORVERTON 2nd XI lost their level three play-off against Topsham St James by five wickets in a game that did not go anywhere near the full distance.

Three wickets for Declan Wardell, and two each for Brian Jeary, Ross Treleaven and Rhys Norman, had Thorverton back in the hutch for 69. No one made more than Andrew Daldorph (18).

St James took less than 26 overs to skittle Thorverton and just 16 more to knock off the runs. Aiden Pring (34) top scored for the winners.

Three of the five wickets to fall were taken by lady cricketers: Eliza Heard and Imogen Daldorph.

PLYMPTON 2nd XI were decidedly second-best in the fourth-place play-off for Tier Three clubs.

Matt Quartley clubbed 16 fours and two sixes on his way to 97 in Ipplepen’s 252 for five. Jack Lewis (65) and Adam Peters (43) both chipped in.

Isaac Rowsell (4-39) was the bowling champ for Plympton.

Plympton got to 99 for four on the tase then fell away to 134 all out. George Atkinson top scored on 20.

Wickets were shared with two each for Josh Thompson and Jeff Heath, both of whom were eclipsed by Keith Wakeham’s three for nine off five overs.

Plympton’s 3rd XI chased to win at Woodbury (175-8) where Max Weston and Andy Cork both made half-centuries in a two-wicket win.
