It was a hot day already when Ipplepen the visitors lost the toss and we ask to field in what felt like the hottest day of the year so far.

Issues with team selections due to a lot of Ipplepen youngsters taking part in Ten Tors Training saw a makeshift squad make the journey to the Oval.

With T & S skipper William Moore electing to bat out went Ben Whatmore and Daniel O’Connell to navigate their way through the opening bowlers. From one end was a promising young female cricketer Hannah —- who struggled slightly with the downhill run up but bowled full and straight to make scoring hard. At the other end coming up the hill , swing was the option and with some early runs progress was made.  Ben Whatmore fell to a full and straight one which clipped off stump after scoring 16.

Skipper W Moore came to the crease and took 10 balls to get off the strike with an exquisite cover drive, he only troubled the scorers for 4 more as when chasing a wide delivery was adjudged to of got a piece of the ball and was taken low down by the Ipplepen keeper.

Out strided young Will Greenwood. Keen to make up for not cashing in during last weeks win over Babbacombe. Keen to push on he had a few swipes before finding his rhythm to punish some average bowling, meanwhile at the other end Daniel O’Connell was just happy to rotate the strike and allow the young protagonist the freedom he loves . Will raced to 50 ahead of his playing partner and then continued to hit all corners of the ground in pursuit of a maiden century .

Playing partner Oconnell reached his maiden club 50 since his move before the season from Exwick CC.

Then it was down to Will G . Flicking off his pads to 98 and with his teammates all filming reached his maiden century with a cover drive and the elation showed. He don’t stop there reaching 150 just after opener Oconnell played a tired looking shot getting out bowled for 80. A partnership of 202 for the third wicket will have to be checked in the club record books

In came Scott Baxter who again was happy to run hard and give young Will the strike .  The target was to try and reach an amazing 400 it seemed . Will G running hard as ever reached his double century to a standing ovation from players and supporters alike, the innings ended with T&S scoring 398!! With Will G 223 no at the end ..

With an unrealistic target to chase and runs in the bank T&S attacked from the off
4 in the cordon and attacking the stumps for most of the innings with great catches in the cordon by Scott Baxter (2) and some classy Yorkers from Ross Aitchison had Ipplepen targeting the batting points rather than the total.  Wickets fell at regular intervals despite a simple drop from experienced keeper G Ballman early on.

Ipplepen opener T Cooper batted through the innings doggedly holding his end up for a we deserved 66 with ipplepen reaching 206 for the loss of 7 wickets at the end of 40 overs.

When leaving the field after a scorching day young Will Greenwood walked the players off the field to receive a proud hug from his father who had heard the news and rushed back from watching Exeter chiefs to be there. A great day enjoyed by all .
