The two Devon girls who represented Oxford University in the Varsity Match at Wormsley: Sophie Florides and Maddy Ross

TWO members of the Devon Women’s team played a key role for Oxford University Women in their 88-run win over Cambridge in the annual varsity match.

Sophie Florides (Clyst SG) and Maddy Ross (Topsham SJ) were Devon’s representatives in the annual match, which was played in the Getty Family ground at Wormsley in Buckinghamshire.

Opener Florides missed out with the bat – she was in and out for eight – but Ross made 34 in a fifth-wicket stand of 70 that helped the Dark Blue XI reach 235 for eight in their 50 overs.

Ross opened the bowling for Oxford and picked up two wickets for 32 runs from her eight-over allocation.

Florides went one better with three for 22 and wrapped-up the Cambridge innings on 147 with two wickets with successive balls.
