DEVON Lions were due to face Dorset Leopards at North Devon CC this Sunday, but that game has been cancelled as Dorset could not assemble a suitable side.

“Dorset find they are unable to fulfil the fixture due to unavailabilities caused by a number of issues,” said Lions coaching director Tim Western.

“Our next fixture will be on Tuesday, May 31 against Wiltshire at Swindon CC.”

Devon’s failure to get past the group stages in the National Counties T20 Cup means they have no game until the end of May.

Competitive cricket resumes on Sunday, May 29 when Devon travel to Henley to play holders Berkshire in the50-over National Counties Trophy.

Devon are in a competitive group as their other opponents are Bedfordshire (home), Hertfordshire (away) and Cornwall (home), all of whom are level two sides. The top two from each group go through to the last eight.

Devon went through the T20 competition without captains past and present Matt Thompson and Jamie Stephens. They both had work commitments but are expected to feature throughout the Trophy programme. Callum Haggett led the side in Stephens' absence.

Seamer Hugo Whitlock and all-rounder Matt Golding will also be available for 50-over cricket, which will increase Devon's selection options.
