WESTLEIGH continued their good start to the Division One season with a seven-wicket victory at Belstone. 

Opener Ryan Dennis top scored with 63 and after he was seventh out on 92 Harry Bushin made 37as Belstone reached 164 all out in the 40thover.

Robert Mills (4-41) was the pick of the Westleigh bowlers. Steffan James took two for 32. 

Westleigh got the runs for the loss of three wickets. James (71no) and Richard Wild (52) doing much of the task in a third wicket stand of 95. James Starkey (23) was in at the end with James.

Westleigh are dead level at the top of the table on 20 points with North Devon, but have played one more game.

Heathcoat batted first at Hatherleigh, and totalled 209 all out. William Blowers (46) and Ben Fitzherbert (35) top scored for Tiverton outfit, who were assisted by 33 extras.

Henry D'Aalbertyi-Nicholson (3-28) was Hatherleigh’s top bowler. Kian Burns led the chase with 61 with support from Charlie Presswell (47) as Hatherleigh got the runs with four wickets in hand.

North Devon’s overseas player Darren Butler put Newton Tracey to the sword in a remarkable innings. Butler’s 98 came off 47 balls and contained 10 sixes. 

Harry Nickell joined in the fun, scoring 83 not out, as North Devon racked up 289 for eight. 

Top bowler for Newton was their veteran off-spinner Richard Screech (3-60).

Phil Butcher led the chase with 54, but Newton succumbed to 152 all out. George McEndoo (3-26) and James Tyson (3-39) did the damage with the ball.

DIVISION THREE

IAN Brown and Marc Bettis led Victoria Park to a 40-over total of 260 for six against Barnstaple & Pilton.

Brown made 101 off 96 balls – 14 fours and 11 sixes – in a stand worth 148 with Bettis (71) for the second wicket. Dominic Chugg took three for 50 for B&P.

Barnstaple & Pilton didn't entertain the idea of chasing the runs and limped to 116 for six in their 40 overs. Jamie Sutton helped himself to 57not out.

Kelseymen were put into bat by hosts Holsworthy, and were all out for 151. Andy Parsons top scored with 64 and Alex Parsons made 20. Jack Greening starred with the ball for Holsworthy. He took five for 16 off 20 balls. 

Holsworthy got the runs in a hurry – 15.3 overs to be precise. Matthew Mansbridge hammered 90 of 55 balls before Dean Davies bowled him. Jerry O’Donoghue was there at the end on 31 not out.

Filleigh defeated Ilfracombe by 23 runs in a North Devon League Cup pool game at Deer Park.

Chris Cullen (56) and Dan Smith (64) both made half-centuries for Filleigh in their total of 206 for seven. Kevin Clarke (3-44) took the bowling honours for Ilfracombe.

Despite a solid start from openers Chris Ayres (32) and Nathan Townsend (52), Ilfracombe lost momentum as the chase unfolded and were 183 for nine when the overs ran out.

Elsewhere, James Roe scored 111 for Bideford in an eight-wicket win over touring side HSBC Birmingham.

Congratulations to NDL chairman Graham Moore who this week qualified to play for the Devon Over-60s.
