George Benton - seven wickets for Torquay against Seaton<br>credit: Conrad Sutcliffe

TORQUAY handed out a 10-wicket hiding to Seaton after skittled them out for just 58.

Seaton arrived one man short at the Recreation Ground, where they were put to the sword by Torquay paceman George Benton.

Benton bagged a career-best haul of seven for 19 during an unchanged spell of eight overs.

Of the 10 who turned up for Seaton only Matt Hewer (18) and skipper Joe Berry (15) troubled the scorers. The other eight did not manage a run between them. Twenty-five extras – mostly wides – made up the rest of the scoring.

Torquay opener Chris Kelmere bullied the bowling for 43 off 24 balls in the six overs needed to knock-off the runs. Tim Western (8no) was the other not out batter.

A nine-ball over from Fin Copp produced 22 runs and hastened the inevitable Torquay win.

Victory takes Torquay up to third in the A Division table. They are level on points with Exmouth (45pt) and two behind leaders Budleigh Salterton (43).

The game may have been a non-event – it was over by half past two – but for skipper Tom Drake that was not a consideration.

“It was a top result for us and great to see a real team performance.

“Jono Colegate and Beano bowled exceptionally well up top. Beano showed his talent with a deserved seven-wicket haul.

“It was also great to see our openers finish it in a proper manner.

:We will have some hungry people eager to see play against Barton this Saturday.”
