BAD weather dominated another soggy round of matches in the North Devon League with just two games played out to a finish on a seven-game fixture list.

Westleigh dodged the rain to beat Bratton Fleming by six wickets in one of the two games in Division One,

Westleigh bowled first at the Comer Clarke ground and set about the Bratton Batting in double-quick time.

Richard Pearson, with an opening spell of four for 13, backed up by James Starkey (1-13) reduced Bratton to 21 for five.

The Tapps – dad James (47) and lad Finley (22) –aided by 20 extras saw the home side to an all-out total of 115. Luke Renton and Peter Bowes took two wickets each.

Westleigh took just 11 overs to get the runs, and keep the pressure on leaders North Devon. James Starkey (31) and Selwyn Fisher (30) started the charge. Richard Wild (24no) and Lewie Parker (10no) finished it off.

On a dismal day for Bratton Fleming, who played one man short, Will Boyles bowling figures of three for 37 stood-out.

Defending champions North Devon went to predecessors Hatherleigh, but were unable to get a full game in.

Hatherleigh were thwarted by the weather for the second consecutive week. They scored an impressive 281 for seven in their 40 overs. Kagiso Rapulana (51) and the in-form Harry Arden (62) were the standouts. Darren Butler with four for 51 was the pick of the North Devon bowling. There was no play after tea.

Both games in Division Three started the fell foul of the weather.

Newton Tracey 2ndXIs were in a strong position at Barnstaple when the rain came. They were 103 without loss with Tim Fryer and Julian Moore both unbeaten in the 40s.

Holsworthy’s home game against Hatherleigh 2ndXI lasted a bit longer. Henry D'Alberti-Nicholson scored 52 in Hatherleigh’s all-out total of 140. Holsworthy's reply lasted three overs

Belstone travelled to Newton Tracey in the League Cup and had their hosts 55 for four after 11 overs when the rain came.  Exford conceded their game against Heathcoat.

It was the Justin Saker show at Nomansland where Filleigh won by 10 wickets.

Nomansland batted first and made 154. Ryan Bowden and skipper Greg Cole were joint top scorers with 24 each.

Kevin Toze and Kevin Gosney both got three wickets for Filleigh, before Saker took over. He scored 108 not out as Filleigh got the 155 required in 18 overs. Saker hit 74 in boundaries. Ed Wilson was 31 not out at the other end.

It was Filleigh’s second 10-wicket win over the weekend as they defeated Cullompton 3rdXI by the same margin on Saturday after bowling them out for 64 in a Tolchards DCL match.
