SIDMOUTH are the new leaders in the Premier Division after wrapping up a nine-wicket win over bottom side Brixham in double-quick time.

Kyle Brockley ran through the Brixham order like a dose of salts to take seven wickets for 27 runs as they were skittled out for 63.

Brockley bowled Brixham opener Tim Robinson with the first ball of the match and in his next over trapped Jake Lawrence lbw.

And when Brixham captain Andy Pugh also went lbw to Brockley, the visitors were 22 for three. Five balls and one run later Will Gater removed Tom Hopper.

Corné Dry made 23 off 21 balls to stop the slide briefly, but once Brockley sent him back caught behind Brixham fell apart.

The last five wickets went for just 15 runs – three to Brockley, two to Josh Bess – before Brixham were all out in the 18th of their 50 overs.

Sidmouth were home and dry in the 11th over for the loss of Josh Bess to Dry. The not out batters were opener Matt Cooke (38) and skipper Luke Bess (12).

Skipper Bess said it was a ‘convincing performance’ but added the secret to success is going to be repeating it.

So far this season when we have got on top early teams have found it difficult to get back into the game against us,” said the captain.

“We haven’t done that consistently enough, so that has to be our main focus from hear forward.”

It’s the fifth week running the leadership has changed – and in that time no team has gone back to the top having surrendered it before.

Only 12 points separate the top five with Exeter a mere three points behind Sidmouth in second after they dismantled Bovey Tracey by nine wickets.
