PLYMSTOCK opened up a 10-point lead over Ivybridge at the top of the B Division table when they thrashed Braunton by 103 runs.

Jason Williams top scored with 78 – he and James Nicholls put on 78 at the top of the order - oand with Jack Horton (35) and Nick Carter (21) chipping in a total of 198 was reached.

Mark Mitchell took four for 41 for Braunton and Alfie Huxtable weighed in with three for 40.

Braunton then slumped to 30 for six in reply – St Lucian Bronte Bess (3-6) doing sizeable damage – and there was no way back.

Callum Mitchell hung round for 21, but Ian Whalley and Syed Ali with two wickets each polished off the stragglers.

Nicholls said it was just the sort of performance needed with two tough games coming up.

“We’ve got Ivybridge then Ottery St Mary (3rd) and will need to play hard cricket in both those games,” said Nicholls.

“If you were fussy you would say we dropped a batting point against Braunton, but I would answer we got a good total on a pitch that was a bit difficult.

“The best thing we did was to finish of Braunton when we had them on the ropes by bowling them out for below a hundred.”
