IVYBRIDGE got the brake on Tavistock just in time to win the derby clash by 21 runs.

Jeewan de Silva top scored for the Bridge with 55 off 47 balls in a total of 211 for five.

Abraham Kopparambil (32) and Andy Johnson (19) gave the Bridge a 58-run start before Dan Milligan (2-35) slowed things down for a while.

Skipper Kelvin Trent (44no) put on 74 with de Silva and 37 with Harry Solomon as the overs ticked down.

Aaron Churchill (44) and Ian Gray (45) pointed Tavvy in the right direction, but their runs didn’t come quickly.

Frugal, nine-over spells from Pete Abraham (0-16) and Solomon (1-32) kept it right and when Tavvy tried to up the pace against de Silva (2-38) and Abraham Kopparambil (3-29) they lost wickets.

Rob Milligan made 22 and Dave Manning 36 but it was all in a lost cause for Tavvy, who finished on 190 for six.

“After being put in on a damp wicket, we batted really well to get 212,” said Ivybridge captain Trent.

“By bowling really tightly we got them behind the run rate and controlled the game and won from there.”

Churchill, deputising for Shaun Daymond, said he was pleased with the way Tavvy played if not the result.

“I felt they probably had 20/30 more than they should have,” said Churchill.

“We bowed well throughout but Jeewan really upped the tempo and got them to a good score.

They made it really hard to score early runs with an attack cking field and bowlers who bowled to it.

“Needing 10 an over for the last 10 we felt was do-able with Dave Manning in.

“But having Jeewan in their locker for the last 18 was probably the difference.

“A good game of cricket played at a good standard.”
