BABBACOMBE were on the wrong end of a 13-run reversal at Alphington.

Tom Bath (62) and Mark Porter (42) put on 97 for the third Alphas wicket then Paul James and Nick Halse advanced the score to 201.

Ben Passmore took three wickets and Damon Calland two.

A final total of 220 for seven was around 20 fewer than Alphas’ skipper Stuart Shaw hoped for, but proved just about enough.

Babbacombe ran out of time at 207 for six with Matt Inch stranded on 95 not out made in 14 overs. Chris Penna chipped in.

Tight bowling from spinners James (2-29) and Shaw (1-24) helped keep the lid on Babbacombe.

Babbacombe skipper Steve Broad said the stand between Bath and Porter was the difference between the sides.

“In response to it our top six didn't do enough,” said Broad.

The biggest partnership only 35 so at108-5 we were way off the pace.

“A 99-run partnership between Inch  Mabbutt (9) gave us max batting points and created some nervy moments for Alphington.

“Inchy hit seven sixes and six fours - some of the most brutal hitting I've seen, literally to all parts of the ground.

“It was a shame that such a good innings was in a lost cause and at no seven he should have had a better platform provided by his top six.”
