ABBOTSKERSWELL got back on track after their defeat at Kingsbridge when they triumphed by 26 runs against visiting Chagford.

With skipper Charlie Hill weighing in with 82, and Alex Birt 59, Abbots posted a sizeable total of 270 for six.

Connor Adams (32) and Hill got the early runs in a stand of 70 then Hill and Brett Williams (21) kept the board ticking over with 70 more.

When Hill was out – happy to have some runs after a lean quiet patch – Abbots were 160 for four.

Aron Owen and Birt piled up the runs with a partnership of 100, their second 100 partnership of the season. Birt only faced 40 balls.

Chagford had a real go for the runs, led by James Fulner (64) then South African Kenton Vos (51), as the visitors got to 187 for five in reply.

Matt Beasant took five of the first six wickets to fall, but at long as Vos hung around Chagford had a chance.

Elliott Adams (2-33) got Stuart Lord (24) then Vos as Chagford slowed to 187 for six.

Skipper Derek Lammonby (32) kept Chagford in the hunt for points if not the win and was last man out in Chagford’s total of 244 all out.

Said Hill: “It was a tough but well-deserved win.

“It was key to bounce back after a defeat last week with full points.

“I was really impressed with the way the guys batted and valued their wickets compared to last week.

“This week is the big 40-pointer against Alphington so we are hoping to keep the momentum going forward.”
