AT last! Brixham are belatedly off the mark in the Premier Division after beating Plymouth by seven wickets,

Brixham, winless prior to Saturday, stuck Plymouth in at a damp Mount Wise and bowled them out for 128.

Craig Eaves (2-20) accounted for openers Anthony Atkinson and James Toms, but a 50-run stand between Jake Luffman (51) and Jack Hale (29) got Plymouth up to 67 for three.

Issac Withington (3-33) made inroads into the middle order, but Luffman hung around to take Plymouth to 103 for six.

Once Luffman fell it was downhill all the way to 128 all out – former Devon paceman Mark Orchard whipping out the bottom three for just nine runs.

Brixham reached 38 for none in reply, lost Orchard, Corné Dry (26) and Adam Edwards  for five runs added then kicked on.

Eaves (40no) and Brixham captain Andy Pugh (33no) took Brixham to their first win of the season without further mishap.

Acting captain Dave Burke (1-20) made Brixham work while he was bowling and Dan Goodey (2-33) posed some problems too.

Brixham remain bottom, 43 points from safety, but  for Pugh it was a step in the right direction.

“I thought the guys played to their potential,” said Pugh.

“We bowled and fielded brilliantly and - at last- batted positively but with patience.”
