SHOBROOKE Park were eventually undone by the weather when they lost by 12 runs to South Devon.

South Devon, whose win over Thorverton seven days earlier was their first of the season, made 178 for eight in their 45 overs.

Richard Beaumont, who was with Glamorgan as a youngster, made a top score or 82 off 86 balls and held the South Devon innings together.

Beaumont was the last man out for South Devon having gone in at 45 for two and put on 37 with Divan Marais then 73 for the seventh wicket with Cameron Fogden.

James Bevan got out South Devon’s two openers on his way to figures of three for 39,

Tom Youngman was in the wickets later, taking three for 23 from nine tidy overs.

Jon James (25), Chris Simpson (20), Richard Pyle (32), Phil Anning (26) and Andrew Codling (20) all helped Shobrooke whittle away the target.

Anning’s stand of 54 with Pyle appeared to put Shobrooke in the driving seat at 108 for four.

With the weather closing in Shobrooke started to lose wickets, South Devon skipper Jon Martin (3-10) the main beneficiary.

Shobrooke were 135 for seven when the heavens opened, and forced the teams off.

Five overs were lost and when Shobrooke returned they needed 24 to win off eight balls. They didn’t get them and finished on 145 for nine.

Skipper Simpson said there were other factors apart from the weather that contributed to the outcome

“Having sent them in, maybe we should have kept them under 150, but a few dropped catches didn't help,” said Simpson.

“Really we should have knocked off that total as most of the top six got starts, but no one could kick on.

“Pyle batted well for his runs and Codling looked good as well.”
