ALPHINGTON remain tight behind leaders Abbotskerswell at the top of the C Division West following a six-wicket win at Kingsbridge.

The South Hams outfit had been on a winning run that had taken them up to third in the table.

With skipper James Westlake absent – he has been a match winner with bat and ball in recent games – Kingsbridge weren’t quite the strength they had been.

James Ford (31), James Ellis (28) and Will Dorey (52) all contributed to the Kingsbridge tally.

Having dismissed Kingsbridge for 187 – spinners Paul James (4-61) and skipper Stuart Shaw (2-34) in the runs – Mark Halse led the dash to victory with 72.

Tom Bath made 35 and 31 extras helped the chase along.

“It is never easy bowling on a slope but I thought we bowled extremely well,” said Alphas skipper Shaw.

“Andy Wilson and Tom Bath kept it really tight for the first 14 overs and Kingsbridge never really recovered.

“A total of 186 was well below par on a ground where runs are usually easy to make. I thought 250 would of made a game of it.

“Their bowling gave us no cause for concern, Mark Halse once again looking good with the bat.”
